Winter and ice sailing categories: Open Class

The sled is powered by a windsurfing sail. In this W.I.S.S.A.* race class the sailor stands on any type of sled or board to control a conventional windsurfing sail or sailboard rig attached only with a universal joint. The sled may have blades, skis and/or runners.

With these windsurfing sleds you can sail on snowy and icy plains. They are also called snow or ice sleds. If you are a windsurfer, you probably have all the equipment needed to sail on ice or snow - you just need the board or sled!

Snowfer

The Snowfer is a patented sled for boardsailing on snow and ice, using a conventional windsurfing rig. The basic techniques are quite similar on water but considerably easier since the "tipping effect" is eliminated.

It is very easy to learn and can be used anywhere around the world where there are winter conditions, on snow-covered fields and ice-covered lakes. There are no limitations like mountains, hills or open bodies of water unlike other sports. Anyone can do Snowfering from the very young to the late seventies or so.
